RIP to the legend. I don't always have time to do tribute videos but this time I do and these are a few of the best highlights I've got of his so here's my respects to this NBA legend. My deepest condolences to the West family.

Dolph Schayes Rare Highlights - Most Ambidextrous Player of All Time?

6-8 220, based on such limited footage you couldn't even tell which hand is his dominant hand if you didn't look it up! Even jump shooting with his off hand! Dynamic scorer who could shoot from anywhere on the floor with either hand. Rules made the era a different game, no traveling, carrying or high percentage shots around the rim. Even without accounting for that, think JJ Redick could kick h...

    In a clip from a 1993 film “Blue Chips”, a 62 year old Cousy shot at least consecutive 11 free throws including one with his left. Plumbers & Fireman certainly played better than $200 million dollar babies who can’t shoot (Simmons) or run the length of the court without being gassed (Zion)

    Bill and Wilt were before my time. I was a Kareem fan early in life. The info that really affects my judgment is they changed the rules to try and slow down Wilt .... now LeBron gets the rules changed to help him out.

    Nolte is a good actor, but I think most coaches or players, serious or like me, would throw bounce passes. Am I wrong? Love seeing Cousy here. I’ll watch that movie sometime.

    I think the “modern” basketball ideology is centered around athleticism and highlights. Putting the ball in the basket is the game. No matter the era, if you could score, that’s the game. Dunks, alley oops crossovers is flash. Screens, pick and rolls, dribbling shooting and passing is basketball.

    I think it's important to appreciate these early guys didn't have as much to pattern their games after. They had to innovate. To look back today with all the knowledge, the countless refinements, the improvements in diet, strength training, body movements. To act like it's no big deal, you think those guys back then wouldn't have benefitted? You can't just roll back in a time capsule and show up with 50 years of standing on top of peoples shoulders and act like they aren't anything.

    Real stupid people. Just an example, 1985 Kareem averaged 25 points 9 rebounds in the finals at age 38, can you imagine how much better 25 year old kareem was? By the way, 25 year old kareem played in 1972. No one could block his skyhook in the 80’s, wilt chamberlain did, a guy who played in the 60’s. How are these people are allowed to even talk about sports. 😂

    It was a different day, but his shooting stats were still horrible. No way he took his game as seriously as others did... even in his time. He's still a legend, though... but sub 40% with no 3-pt line his entire career is wild.

    • @WiltChamberlainArchive
      @WiltChamberlainArchive 21 годину тому

      You made an assumption that isn’t accurate. Namely, his efficiency relative to his peers and era. He was as efficient in his era vs his peers and contemporaries as a shooter as say, JJ Redick was in his. He was a great all around player, and was efficient enough to really open up his facilitating game. His threat to shoot was there and had to be respected. The best of the best sharp shooters in his era only shot a few percentage points higher - not even close to modern numbers. You can’t compare his raw numbers vs today unless of course you’re also equally happy to compare Wilt and Russell’s raw rebounding numbers to today? Think they’d both have games of 50 plus rebounds in todays format? If not then I wouldn’t be so ready to directly compare modern fg% to Bob Cousy or his peers because they played a game with completely different rules and it transformed good or bad shots and normal shooting rates.

      @@WiltChamberlainArchive Game always improves. Gotta play the hand you're dealt. Future players will make our current ones look worse as well. But just as we can judge cavemen and racists, we can call this like we see it as well. It's not their fault, just like it isn't ours. Also, in fairly confident Bob ridiculed those that came before him as well 🤣

      @@JonSanders that's where you're wrong. Greatness doesn't care what year's on your driver's license. Air Jordan will always be ill. Doctor J will always operate. Shaq will always dunk on you. Cousy's sweeping hook shot with his left hand and glass will ever be sweet.
